· Excel – I’m familiar with excel and used it to record import details, cross checks, other detail. I stored queries for each file on its page in the spreadsheet, but found copying from Excel to BigQuery was a problem for the PARSE_TIMESTAMP function. I had to retype the format string in BigQuery which led me to structure the queries so I only had to retype once. Works Ok from Notepad but I like having the queries sorted by tab with their file details.
· BigQuery – I am familiar with MS SQL and chose to learn BigQuery as I’ve heard good things about it. I liked the speed!
· R code and markdown – I am familiar with different versions of C and VB and a couple of other languages. I’ve heard good things about R too and chose to learn it better in this activity. I definitely like the charts.
· Notepad and WordPad to open CSV files without changing them. Notepad is great for search and replace without helpful syntax suggestions. Much faster.
· MS Word to draft my presentation in. I’m familiar with it and wanted to stay on course for this activity timewise. I included PDF files in case a viewer isn't able to display Word files.
· Oh yes, Chrome and MS Windows, and Google Sites.
